Anyone that has ever had to put up holiday lights knows that this task is much more than throwing some lights on a
tree and plugging them in. Then there are those that actually have competitions in their neighborhood to see who is
able to create the best yard display, which requires even more time and planning than the average home that simply
hangs a few strings of lights.
Brad Finkle's new book “Holiday Hero: A Man's Manual for Holiday Lighting,” a guide to help anyone that wants to
create a simple light display or anyone that wants some help creating a display that will surely win the neighborhood
competition. Though there are some people that love this task, other may dread it. Also, in some parts of the
country this task can get to be quite difficult and even dangerous. However, if there is a person crazy enough to
climb a ladder in the dead of winter with a string of Christmas lights in her grip and in turn risk death in multiple ways,
whether it be from falling, electrocution, hypothermia, who be out their telling them that they shouldn’t be doing it?
Decorating one's home for Christmas can be an obsession, with most men possessing some degree of desire to turn
their home into Disneyland; what many have lacked until now is a guidebook.
As a 20 year decorating veteran and his displays have won numerous awards, Finkle shows readers, step by step,
how to turn their yard into a light filled wonderland. The key, he explains, is planning. Starting with a rundown of
what's available, and many readers will be very surprised with the variety of holiday lighting that is available to use for
decorations, he shows decorating novices how to work up a plan, what to put where, and how to go about getting it
up. He then gives readers a dozen possible layouts, ranging from several simple but elegant displays to a complex
set-up that would make a Vegas casino proud.
One element of the book that many will like is the fact that there are a number of worksheets that are able to be filled
out to ensure that only one trip is required to pick up everything that is needed for the decorating process. There is
nothing worse than finally getting the courage to brave the cold only to find out that they need more lights to finish
the project.
Finkle concludes with some easy tips for removal and storage. As a jaded longtime holiday decorator, many readers
who have been putting up their own decorations may not know it, but after reading this book will have to admit that
there is a lot to be learned from “Holiday Hero: A Man's Manual for Holiday Lighting.” Anyone that wants to start to
decorate for the holidays or for those that want to spice up their holiday decorations will want to check out this book.
Also, for those that want to keep their decorations simple, but looking professional, this is a great place to start.
