The Entertainment Review
By: Ray Lampe
Publisher: Chronicle Books
Football and tailgating are two things that go together very easily, but not everyone is able to go to the game and sit
in the parking lot before the game, eating as much as possible with friends and family.  Ray Lampe, also known as
Dr. BBQ, has brought the fun and the food of tailgating to the football fan’s home with “The NFL Gameday
Cookbook.”  With 150 different recipes, ranging from rubs and sauces, appetizers to desserts and drinks, football
fans will be able to score extra points with all of their friends and family with a variety of food to stop even the largest
appetite.

Whether holding a fantasy football draft or a Super Bowl party, readers are sure to find a variety of recipes for their
event.  For those that don’t know which of the 150 recipes to use for their event, Lampe offers menus for a variety of
different football season events.  Also throughout the book readers will find pages with statistics on all of the NFL
football teams, each one including a menu that fits with the team and region.  The Arizona Cardinals menu includes
mostly southwestern cuisine and the Miami Dolphins menu has a tropical flair.  Of course these menus are able to be
changed to fit the taste of the group, but they work as a great start for those just starting to host their own pigskin
parties.

The book offers a variety of recipes for every skill level as well.  Readers will find that most recipes are fairly easy to
prepare. While this book contains a section of full-color and beautifully photographed menu items, there is not a
photo of every recipe. Most of the time this is not a big deal, but at times readers will like to have a visual reference
as to what the finished product should look like. This is the only negative that many readers will be able to find with
this cookbook.

The recipes are surprisingly varied. Sure there are a lot of barbecue, but everywhere that his name comes up,
readers are told that author Ray Lampe is also known as Dr. BBQ.  He’s a multiple cook off champion, has been
grilling professionally for more than 20 years and is a columnist for Fiery Foods magazine.  So there is no doubt that
Lampe knows BBQ, but he also knows football and food and through this book it shows.

Many people have fallen into the rut of serving brats, beer, nachos and pizza week after week while watching their
favorite football team.  Ray Lampe’s new book, “The NFL Gameday Cookbook” offers fans of football and food a
vast amount of new food to be served on game day.  Also, readers are offered menus to make those special games
more special.  Why should the food that is served during the Super Bowl be the same as a regular season game?
The book is sure to please anyone that enjoys cooking up new recipes, is a fan of Dr. BBQ or anyone that enjoys
football and food.  A must have book for any tailgater and football fan.
