When the Easter holiday rolls around, it is impossible to look on store shelves and not see package upon package of

ideas can be found in “Peeps!: Recipes and Crafts to Make with You Favorite Marshmallow Treat,” a new released
from Chronicle Books.
It is very obvious that this is more of a fun book than anything else. In a world that is filled with serious cookbooks
filled with recipes for a large number of important and self-important foods, who really needs a book on what to do
with the strange marshmallow animals that have been around for many years. However, the book offers a fun and
interesting look at the treats of the past and the things that can be done with them if eating them isn’t the top use for
them.
For those who have never heard of Peeps before, and the description from before doesn’t help, it is easiest to call
them sugar dusted chicks and bunnies, because that is exactly what they are. Peeps claims that the candy
confection has been around since the 1950s, just like the author of the book, readers will probably associate them
with the extreme sugar rush, that is if they were growing up in the 1970s.
It is one thing to look back at the pastel sugar covered marshmallows from childhood in a nostalgic way. After all, no
matter where and when anyone grew up, they have probably at one time or another had the chance to try a Peep,
though the experience may not always lead to a nostalgic reaction. It is amazing that there is a cookbook for a candy
that, though popular during Easter and a few other holidays, isn’t anything that people have cravings for. It is
basically a candy that anyone can create with marshmallows and sugar. However, “Peeps!: Recipes and Crafts to
Make with You Favorite Marshmallow Treat” has been released for those who feel so inclined.
Readers will be able to make recipes ranging from Peeps Fondue, Peeps Affogato, and Peeps in a Blanket, though it
is basically the basic recipe with a Peeps marshmallow treat thrown on top. A different section of the books offers
fans crafts that feature Peeps, including a Peeps prints tote bag, a Peepiñata and a Sugar Cooke Peeps Coop.
As stated before, this isn’t a typical cookbook, but instead something fun for those who are addicted to the sugar
coated candy confection. The only thing that the book has going for it is the fact that author Charity Ferreria has the
food and creative chops to pull it off. Her projects, both food and craft, are often sweet but never to the point even if
readers don’t care one bit about a Garland of Peeps or a Peeps Wedding Cake Topper. However, readers can’t
help but admire the flair with which she puts together these Peep filled ideas.
