For those who have been fans of the Looney Tunes cartoons will know what to expect any time they say a package
arrive with the word “ACME” on it. However, many probably have never figured out where the characters of the show
were able to find the ACME products. Fans of the series are now able to get a copy of their own catalog of ACME
products. Though the products in “The ACME Catalog” aren’t available to purchase in the real world, fans of the
Looney Tunes series is now able to see exactly what Wile E. Coyote and the other Looney Tunes characters are
able to order.
When readers take a look at “The ACME Catalog,” they may wonder why they should spend the money on a fake
catalog that they aren’t able to order anything out of. The charm of this book is that it is almost a piece of
supplemental material for the Looney Tunes cartoon series. Some readers will find themselves feeling like Wile E.
Coyote when they first get their hands on the book, not able to wait to flip through the pages and see all of the
available products.
For those who didn’t grow up with the Looney Tunes cartoons, the ACME Company was a key component of the
cartoons starring Wile E. Coyote, the company’s main form of income, and his pursuit of the Roadrunner. Though
every single trap usually backfired on Wile E. Coyote, he continued to order from the company in the hopes that the
next trap would work better.
The catalog has quite a few different types of traps, eighty-six to be exact, and many of them have been used in the
cartoon series at one point or another. From rocket jets, gigantic elastic band catapults, a wide variety of forms of
transportation and probably the most popular, a giant magnet to catch any bird that eats iron bird seed can be found
in the catalog. Of course there are anvils, fake holes that a train can drive through and dehydrated boulders can still
be found in the catalog as well. The one thing that the catalog is missing is an index that would help the reader to
more easily navigate through the catalog, but it isn’t a problem that detracts from the book overall.
Throughout the book the ACME Company tries very hard to warn the readers that the products in the catalog have to
be used properly in order to get the best results for them. Also, many of the products also have warnings that
readers need to pay attention to. Readers will also realize that Wile E. Coyote had to be very rich to be able to afford
most of the products in the catalog, especially since he was constantly ordering from the catalog.
Though this isn’t necessarily a good reading book, it is a fun coffee table book that fans of the cartoon series will
enjoy. With references to many of the episodes of the cartoon, anyone who grew up with Wile E. Coyote and
Roadrunner will enjoy this book. The nice thing about this book is it doesn’t cost a fortune, but offers a lot of
enjoyment to look at.
