The Bomberman franchise has been a fan favorite for many years.  The series has been available on almost every single console that
has been released since its induction into the gaming world.  The reason for this love from fans is simply because of the highly
addicting game play that it offers.  Players take out a bomb, blow up everything around them, obtain upgrades and try to eliminate their
opponents by trapping them with their highly explosive bombs.  To make the players more of a part of the game, players have been able
to customize their characters with different outfits that make the game more fun to play.  It is the combination of this personalization and
addicting game play that has helped the Bomberman series a favorite over the years.

Through the years, developers have tried to expand the single-player mode of the game to make it more engaging and addicting.
Unfortunately, even though there have been many new additions to the series developers have not been able to capture the same
magic that was packaged with the original Bomberman game play.  Hoping to bring the single-player mode to the top of its game,
Bomberman Land has been released for the Nintendo Wii, making players a larger part of the game.

When players first begin playing Bomberman Land there are three different game modes that are available for play: Attraction, Story and
Battle.  Attraction mode allows players can play any of the mini-games that they have unlocked in the Story mode with up to four players.

Story mode puts players to the task to becoming the champion of Bomberman Land by getting the highest ranking in the five different
zones.  In order to advance to the next zone players must purchase different licenses and win ranked battles.  Also in this mode players
have the option of wandering around the island, shop for new outfits, play mini-games and train for various events in order to reach the
next zone.  The worst part about Story mode is the fact that it takes so much time to actually get into playing the game.  When starting
this mode players have to sit through numerous text boxes that cannot be skipped that tell the story in a slow and painful way.  Players
will then be moved to various places and the text boxes continue.  The worst part of the story is that it is so generic, so the reading of the
text boxes can seem like torture very quickly.  Once players finally get the opportunity to control their character they find out that most of
Story mode is about playing various mini-games that are very generic and can quickly become boring to play.  There is no real
Bomberman action to be found.

The best part of the game comes from the third and final round which is Battle mode.  Up to four players can compete in Bomberman
action that can be compared to the classic game play.  There are a large number of scenarios that players can choose from including
normal, star, point, crown, all-out and Wii.  Normal mode is the standard Bomberman game that players know and love.  Star mode is
where players collect star panels, trying to be the players with the most star panels at the end of the match.  Point mode has players
collecting points for every opponent that they defeat.  Again, the player with the most points at the end of the match wins.  Crown mode
involves players attempting to find a hidden crown in the level.  The player that finds the crown wins.  All-Out is a random battle and
special rules are enforced.  Wii mode is where players throw bombs using the Wii-mote to the spot it points to in order to take out other
players.  This mode alone is worth the cost of the game, especially if players don’t have any other classic Bomberman games in their
collection.

The game also offers unlockables that will keep players occupied for a while.  As always, players are able to unlock a wide variety of
costumes for their characters, which is always enjoyable to see the many new costumes that have been unlocked.  There are also
many mini-games for players to find throughout the game and try to beat once unlocked.  It is very unfortunate that most of the mini-
games are very generis and tend to get to be very boring very quickly.

The graphics for the game are okay, but the Nintendo Wii is capable of better graphics than it offers.  The only emotions that players get
from their characters are from their eyes and mouths, and it really isn’t even that good.  Basically, the game is not as detailed as
expected and it doesn’t stand out from many of the other games that have been released recently.  Another problem with the game is
the sound effects and music.  The sound effects can only be considered as annoying and the music of the game quickly begins to grate
the ear drums of players.  Eventually players will feel motivated to mute the game in order to still enjoy the game as much as they can.

The game is a great addition to any collection that doesn’t already include another Bomberman game.  Many gamers that are new to
the series may find this game to be okay, but veterans of the series will want to save their money for something else, something a little
more classic.
