Genre: First Person Shooter Developer: High Voltage Software Publisher: SEGA of America

It has proved to be a difficult task to find a good first person shooter to the Nintendo Wii, but players will no longer have to search too
long for one. “The Conduit,” though not a revolutionary game, offers players with a great first person shooter experience with great
controls and graphics, a fun single player mode and an addicting multiplayer mode. Though this is the type of game that many would
find on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, for those with only a Wii, this is a great game to check out.
Players take the role of Agent Ford, a mysteriously gifted operative who works for a top secret organization known only as the Trust as it
fights against invading aliens. The narrative involves a government conspiracy that has been seen in many games over the years.
While the premise is nothing new, no corners were cut in the presentation of the game. Not only does the story throw a curve every
once in a while, it becomes more immersive with talented voice acting by Kevin Sorbo and Mark Sheppard.
For a game released on the Nintendo Wii, “The Conduit” actually uses the system’s unique controller to its potential by allowing players
to change the controls to their liking with a variety of settings. This ensures that any player is able to play to their full potential with this
game. Though it proves to be a simple inclusion to the game, it makes all the difference in the overall experience of the game.
The game itself is divided into two different modes, single player and online multiplayer. The single player portion of the game is
comprised of nine missions that will take anywhere from seven to ten hours to complete, which puts this game at about the average
length expected from a shooter title. Also, the title features a full achievements system and hidden data tracks throughout the levels that
unlock cheats and concept art for the game. Of course, players can also change the difficulty so that the normally forgiving characters
are able to become more formidable opponents, though a majority of them will be the exact same enemies through the entire game.
When players are finished with the single player mode offered by the game, players are able to go online and continue the fight through
the games 12 player compatible online option, a great addition to the game that enhances the overall experience and replay value of the
game. The bad news is that players will still need to trace friend codes with their friends before they are able to play with them, but this
isn’t a problem because there are so many great things that the work of getting friends codes is worth it. The game features a large list
of modes and maps for players to play online and almost 20 weapons to use as players tear through arenas. There is of course the
standard free for all mode, but there are some variations of it. In ASE Football, palyers search a map for a gadget and then try to hold
onto it the longest without being killed. Bounty Hunter has players searching locations for a specific target and will be penalized if they
shoot the wrong target. There are also team play scenarios like Capture the Flag, which is always fun to play with friends. Luckily the
game supports WiiSpeak, allowing players to chat with each other as they run around levels destroying everything in their path.
While playing on online matches with eight to ten players, players will notice little to no lag at all with Wii Speak recognition working
perfectly, creating a very addictive experience. The variety of maps available is adequate, the overall game play is enjoyable and with the
user defined controls, matches tend to get very intense at times. Of course this isn’t going to be the situation every time players go
online. There is will be the occasional lag with on screen characters that will bounce around, making matches very difficult to play. It
seems that the technology is there to offer a great online experience, but the real determiner of whether or not the experience is a good
one or a bad one is the player’s connection speed, as well as how many people are playing. Even with the split between good and bad
connections, a lot of players will probably be willing to deal with the lag in order to have a lot of fun online with their friends.
Though the game may not be anything revolutionary to gaming, “The Conduit” is a great first person shooter that is designed just for
owners of the Nintendo Wii. Though the game does not do much to change the genre it is innovative in the areas that make this game
possible to be personalized to every player. The most noticeable of these features is the fully customizable controls. Also, the
technology that powers the experience of this game is far beyond that of other third party games offered on the Nintendo Wii. On top of
all of this, players get a game that controls well and looks great. Of course there are flaws in the game and the shooting in the game
rarely goes any further than straightforward running and shooting, but if that is the worst of it, players will rejoice. For those who only
own the Nintendo Wii, the game that will save the shooter genre for this system has arrived with a great single player game and an
engaging online multiplayer mode that will have players and their friends blasting each other for months to come.
