Over the past couple of years dodgeball have become more and more popular, in film, games and as an actual sporting event.  However, for someone who plays “Double D Dodgeball,” which is now available on Xbox
Live Arcade, these types of movies, games and events will be the last things that come to mind.  The game looks nothing like an ordinary game of dodgeball, as a matter of fact, some may question whether it is really a
game of dodgeball to begin with.

“Double D Dodgeball” has a lot of modern features that will draw in a lot of fans, including eight player matches online using Xbox Live and a full list of achievement for players to work toward reaching, but the game has
a completely classic arcade game look to it.  After playing the game for a little while, it is obvious that dodgeball is in the game play for sure, but the science fiction outer layer has a style that is reminiscent of the glory
days of the coin operated arcade game era.

This is one game that is very easy to pick  up and play, which is what a lot of players are looking for.  Almost everyone knows the rules and the objective of dodgeball which makes the ability to play the game immediately
after downloading it possible.  The controls have been kept as simple as possible as well, another feature that many players will enjoy.  The left analog stick moves players around the screen while the right analog stick
changes the direction that the characters are facing, if “characters” is even the correct word to use.  Control is very important since it is completely impossible to catch a ball with the back of the characters hear.  When
players are facing towards the ball correctly, they still have to be able to catch the ball.  Receiving and throwing out the ball is done by using the trigger button.  Players who can catch a ball are given a super throw that
adds some extra speed to the shot.  That is how complex of a game “Double D Dodgeball” gets to be, after that it comes down to teamwork and the ability to dodge a ball.

There are two main game types of be played in “Double D Dodgeball.”  As it just to happens, there are two different ways of playing real life dodgeball.  The average rules that most players know how to play is called
western rules, which has players sit on the sidelines when they are hit, hoping that one of their teammates will take out one of the opponents in order to get back into the game.  The eastern rules are mostly the same
rules except that players who have been knocked out of the game get to run around behind the opposing team and continue to try to take out other players with any balls that come to them.  With both sets of rules, the
game ends when everyone on one side is knocked out at one time leaving the other team victorious.

Each of the different areas that are available ot he players can be players with either sets of rules, eastern or western.  In order to add a little something more to the game, the developer added a few more extra science
fiction themes variants that can be easily switched on or off during game play.  There are electric lines that shock players who touch them, ice and plasma surfaces that will affect how players move on the field and a
wide variety of ball types that move different when they are being thrown.  If the two major game types ever get boring to player, turning on some of the extras that have been added and bring a little variety to the game and
make sure that players come back time and time again.  These additions ensure that the game has replayability.

The most important customization feature that is available in the game is the option to build a team with specific player types in order to make sure that each player is able to individualize their own team.  Each player on
each team, including the AI controller players for those who don’t have an entire team or have a friend to play with, can be assigned to a specific type of player with their own set of skills.  The types include normal,
runner, catcher, shooter and glass.  The first four player types are fairly self explanatory.  The last player type is a soft of decoy player that can throw some trick shots into the game.  While playing, players will see that
game play can quickly be broken down into chaos very quickly.  Just like a real game of dodgeball, it is very important to have a balanced team that can work together and this needs to happen in “Double D Dodgeball”
as well.

Yuke’s has already verified that players can expect to be seeing some extra downloadable content for the game.  “Double D Dodgeball” is one of those sports games that can be very addictive if a fast paced game is the
type of game that players like.  However, for those who like to spend a little more time planning things out before jumping into a game, this game will hit players hard, along with their pocketbooks as well.
