There are very few games that are able to make players feel as though they are a part of the game, but “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare”
will show players that war really is hell, but in a good way. This time around the enemies in this well known series are smarter, the
weapons are deadlier and grenades are available around every turn, allowing players to cause major destruction. “Call of Duty 4:
Modern Warfare” is an amazing game that will exceed player’s expectation and leave them wanting even more.
and the U.S. Marines, each one continues the progression of a single storyline. It is a very effective strategy. Although the story, which
is centered on some stolen Russian nuclear warheads and Middle Eastern terrorists wanting to destroy the U.S., isn’t anything too
new, it is still fun to play. There storyline doesn’t offer a lot of twists and turns in the storyline, instead there are a number of shocking
moments that players may not be expecting. Most players will be caught off guard with the way that the events present themselves.
For those who have played other games in the “Call of Duty” series, jumping into “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” will be very easy.
This game doesn’t offer any revolutionary game controls, it instead maintains its smart system of rewarding players for aiming before
firing, players can run from one piece of cover to another, have a one click melee attack and there are a few spots in the game that
require players to press certain buttons to interact, and yet again players can pick up live grenades and throw them back at the enemy.
The real change in this game comes in the combat. This is an intense shooter because of the vast number of enemies. This time
around the enemies are much smarter due to some refined AI. Of course there will be some moments when the enemies run in circles
of stand in the open just waiting to be shot, but overall the enemy AI is vastly improved. Also, though most shooter games run players
through a linear storyline, having players move through tunnels and paths, there are a number of side paths available to players. These
side paths almost always lead to flanking positions, which if players don’t flank, the enemies will.
This time around players will move through a majority of the campaign making their way through a series of short linear levels. There
are a handful of defend missions where they are given a small sandbox in which to create their own strategy for holding back enemy
attacks. The majority of the time players will be playing through the game in a way similar to other games in the “Call of Duty” series.
However, there are a few things that change up the normal formula and keep the game from feeling repetitive. Players will find
themselves for an entire levels inside of an AC-130 Gunship, at which time players are able to take control of the gunner position on a
chopper ride through a Middle Eastern town. Players will also be put into stealth missions.
Players will find the single player campaign to be a lot of fun because of the fact that it has them on the edge of their seat. This wouldn’t
be possible unless the sound and visuals were amazing, which they are. Everything runs very well with only a few frame rate issues,
but overall the game offers rich detail, great textures, excellent animation, awesome particle effects and amazing lighting. The sound is
also very impressive. Players will realize very quickly how loud combat can be. Allies will shout orders; enemies will curse players,
even the sound of metal hitting rock as a grenade hits the ground in front of the player. All of these items brought together create a fully
immersive experience for players who may lose themselves in the combat because of the visuals and the sound.
One complaint about “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” is the length of the game’s campaign. When players set the difficulty to regular,
they can probably finish the game in roughly 5-6 hours. As players move up in difficulty, the completion time can get closer to 8-9 hours.
No matter what difficulty players choose, the overall experience is still very brief; luckily it is still a lot of fun. Once players finish the entire
game, they will unlock Arcade Mode. This allows players to replay the entire campaign or individual levels with arcade style rules.
Players will have a set number of lives and earn points for different types of kills.
Overall, “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” is a great game that has a lot of exciting elements. The single player experience is easily one
of the best offered in a “Call of Duty” game to date. To call this game an intense experience would a major understatement. The main
storyline is standard action movie fodder, but the relationships that players build with their squad mates over the short hours of play are
very strong. Though the single player mode lacks in total length, the multiplayer should keep players invested in “Call of Duty 4: Modern
Warfare” for quite a long time. This is a great multiplayer game that is as deep as any other online game available at this time.
